WHAT DOES A TYPICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY VISIT LOOK LIKE?

You will be asked focused questions about what is troubling you, such as not being able to properly  lift your arm over head, open a jar, bend to the floor, jump or run without pain, full power or full strength.

Further questioning and testing of your function, specific muscle, joint and nerve tests then help narrow down the most likely cause(s) of your signs and symptoms, especially when it is not completely obvious!  It is important to get to the root cause of your physical pain or problem.

Physiotherapy uses evidence based treatments to address the impairments identified by supporting, guiding and improving the body’s capacity to heal and reach optimal pain free function and movement.

Some typical treatments often include some, even many of the following:

  • Supervised and independent therapeutic exercise prescription

  • Postural retraining and correction

  • Education including self treatment techniques and self management strategies

  • Manual therapy-hands on techniques

  • Sports specific functional observational assessment in clinic and on court/field where possible

  • Deep and superficial soft tissue techniques

  • Cupping
